A couples safari

Couples safaris are the most popular type of safari holidays taken in Africa. Many if not all of the lodges in Africa are suitable for couples although some are more focused on group safari holidays or honeymoon safari holidays.

If you are a couple that want to steer away from the more family based safari camps or group lodges then most tour operators will be able to suggest a number of sites that will be most suited to your requirements.

If you are a couple looking for an adventurous safari holiday then Zambia may just be the perfect place for you.  Famous for its exceptionally high standards of guiding and simple yet very high-quality camps, Zambia offers great-value safari that is off the mainstream circuit. Zambia has many family run lodges and safari operators and over recent years has developed leading to great improvements. Zambia also offers night safaris allowing you a whole new safari experience.

Organising your first safari

Organising your first safari trip can be a nightmare, you may be baffled by the number of options you have and it can be a very time consuming task. It may be that you have been saving up for a safari holiday for a number of months or years or that you are planning one as part of a special trip for an anniversary, honeymoon or birthday for example, so you will want everything to be perfect.

Ideally I would recommend ringing a number of safari tour operators and finding out about the options they offer and the costs. You can then carry out a bit of your own research to find out the types of places you may like to go and the activities you fancy doing. Once you have a better idea of the options available you can then contact them again and discuss a safari package to see if it is possible and the cost to do so.

Botswana Safari

Botswana is a country in Southern Africa, it is a popular destination for safari holidays due to the perfect conditions for the wildlife.

If you are looking for a cheap safari holiday then Botswana is not the place to go, it is most popular for its luxury safaris as the accommodation and service you receive is second to none. Also the wildlife and guiding will not disappoint, but all this does come at a price.

Between May and October which is known as the dry season, you can see some of the best migrations across the land as the Okavango Delta receives floodwater from the Angolan highlands, bring game in from the Kalahari Desert.

Visitors numbers are very strictly limited which means you can guarantee you will get a truly personal experience.

Camps across Botswana are generally split in to wet camps, dry camps and mixed and each one offers different safari experiences.

Safari tents

If you like the idea of camping but miss the home comforts such as a proper bed, fridge, freezer and cooker etc. then why not book your next holiday in a safari tent? Safari tents are available at many locations all over the world and are often classed as glamping (glamourous camping). I personally love camping and do not mind staying in a tent with little amenities but when going on holiday with two young children the idea does become not quite so appealing. A safari tent will give me both, the excitement of camping but with the luxuries of a few items that make life a lot easier when staying away from home.

The cost of a safari tent is usually somewhere in between taking your own tent and staying in a caravan. A short 4 night break in June in south of Wales for example, often costs between £200- £300 pounds.

Working as a safari guide

The job of a safari guide is not an easy one but can be very rewarding. You will be expected to work long hours and often will need to get up very early in the morning to prepare for and take out your group of safari goers. It take many years to become an experienced safari tour guide and for the majority of your first few years, you will be teamed up with someone else learning the daily routines and the usually movement and behaviour of the animals.

You need to be well organised, work well with other people and with animals. You should have a passion in working with the public and a positive attitude. Often experience isn’t necessary as you will learn from another tour guide but willingness to learn is essential. The call of safari tour guides is on the increase as more and more African nations build infrastructures to attract tourism.
